Raku Fired Ceramics, Horse Hair H-18

$145.00

Custom Raku, Horse Hair

There is no glaze. I heat a thrown and bisque piece to 1100 degrees in my Raku kiln. I remove the piece from the kiln and place it on a heated brick. At this temperature, the clay has expand so that it can accept the carbon from the burning hair. I arrange the hair on the hot piece and allow the hair to burn. When the piece cools it traps the carbon, even the smoke that flows up the side can get trapped. I allow the piece to fully cool, wash it and allow to completely dry before sealing it.

Every Raku fired ceramic piece is a beautiful, unique work of art.

Raku is not food safe and will not hold water.
